The Fascinating Origin of World Oil and Other Fossil Fuels

From powering our industries to fueling our vehicles, fossil fuels play an integral role in our daily lives. But have you ever wondered about their origins? How did the world evolve to possess such vast reserves of oil, gas, and coal? Join us on a remarkable journey as we venture back in time to explore the intriguing origins of these invaluable energy sources.
The Formation of Organic Matter
To understand the origin of world oil and other fossil fuels, we must delve into the past, millions of years ago. It all starts with the formation of organic matter, predominantly derived from ancient marine life such as algae and plankton. These tiny organisms thrived in the vast oceans, contributing to the cycle of life and death.
As these organisms died, their remains sank and accumulated at the bottom of the oceans. Over time, layers of sediment covered and exerted immense pressure on these organic deposits, compressing them into thick layers known as sedimentary rocks.

The Phenomenon of Diagenesis
The buried organic matter then underwent a complex and intriguing process called diagenesis. Underneath extreme heat and pressure, the organic material started to transform chemically. This process, taking place over millions of years, gradually converted the organic matter into a rich concoction of hydrocarbons, the building blocks of fossil fuels.
The type and composition of the organic matter, as well as the environmental conditions during diagenesis, greatly impact the resulting fossil fuels. For instance, oil is generally formed in marine environments, where the organic matter contains a higher proportion of hydrogen and less oxygen compared to coal.
The Birth of Oil, Gas, and Coal
As the diagenesis process continues, the hydrocarbons become more concentrated in certain areas of the sediment layers. Through geologic movements and the Earth's forces, these pockets of concentrated hydrocarbons migrate upwards, settling in porous rocks that can hold significant amounts of fossil fuels.
Depending on the depth, temperature, and composition of the reservoir rocks, the migrating hydrocarbons undergo further changes. In favorable conditions, oil, gas, or coal accumulations can form, ready to be tapped into by human beings in the future.
The Quest for Oil
The discovery and extraction of oil have shaped the course of human civilization. It wasn't until the mid-19th century that oil became a valuable resource, primarily for lighting purposes. However, with the invention of the internal combustion engine, the demand for oil skyrocketed.
Explorers embarked on a worldwide quest for new oil fields, often diving into uncharted territories. From the derricks of Texas to the deserts of the Middle East, the world began witnessing the immense power and economic impact of petroleum.
A Sustainable Future
As the world becomes increasingly aware of the environmental consequences and finite nature of fossil fuels, there is a growing emphasis on finding sustainable alternatives. Renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower are gaining prominence, offering hope for a greener and more sustainable future.
While we continue to rely on fossil fuels to meet our energy needs, it is essential to explore clean energy solutions and reduce our dependency on these finite resources. Transitioning to a renewable energy-driven world will not only curb climate change but also ensure a healthier planet for future generations.
The origin of world oil and other fossil fuels lies in the geological processes of diagenesis and the accumulation of organic matter over millions of years. These invaluable energy sources have shaped our civilization and fueled our progress, but they also come at a cost to our planet's health.
As we move forward, it is crucial to embrace cleaner and sustainable energy options to reduce our carbon footprint and create a brighter future for all. Let us appreciate the fascinating origin story of fossil fuels while striving to make a positive environmental difference.

The current theory on how the world fossil fuel formed failed to account for the fact that animal bodies and dead plants lying on the sea floor are quickly decomposed by micro-organisms, leaving nothing but bones to be chemically transformed into fossil fuel. This paper presents a new theory on the formation of fossil fuel in which a major global event (head-on comet collision with earth) totally vaporizes the ocean water and releases vast amount of dusts into the air; the vaporization also kills most of the micro-organisms, which stops body decay. The dusts, mixed with the steam, falls back on earth as mud-rain to deeply bury the whole oceanic eco-system which the ensuing geological age chemically transforms into the modern-day fossil fuel.
